Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has ordered his eldest son to be killed if it is proved that he is involved in drug trafficking.

"My orders are to kill you if you are caught, and I will protect the police who kill you," Duterte said.

His son Paolo Duterte, 42, is the vice mayor of the family’s southern home city of Davao.

Earlier this month he accused of being a member of a triad Chinese transnational organised crime syndicate but denied the allegations.

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, the president justified his calls saying if he is found guilty then "the people can’t say anything against me".

"That’s better… so I can say to people: ‘There, you keep talking. That’s my son’s corpse’," he said.

When Duterte was elected last year he declared war on the drug dealers and users who he said were blighting his country.

As of April 2017, there have been more than 7,000 people who have been slain in drug-related killings.
